| News Release -- May 19, 1998 New Resource on Wellness Available Brethren Benefit Trust announces the availability of a new resource on wellness. As part of their emphasis on health maintenance, Brethren Medical Plan staff have searched for a good self-help book that includes the emotional, social, psychological, and spiritual elements of health as well as the more traditional physical considerations. The Healthy Mind, Healthy Body Handbook, by David S. Sobel, M.D., and Robert Ornstein, Ph.D., met these objectives. This evaluation by Bruce E. Rosenberger of Greenville, Ohio, is typical of those received from the many people who previewed the book: Both my wife and I have found The Healthy Mind, Healthy Body Handbook to be very helpful in that it addresses many areas where individuals may take charge of their lives in order to experience greater health. Sobel and Ornstein point out that instead of relying on someone else to make you healthy, a person needs to become aware that the essentials for health are within and begin with the way we think about health. In addition to being a book that can be read through, the book is designed so that a person can turn to one particular section of interest and find help immediately. The style of writing is clear and easy to comprehend. The book is well organized. The topics are timely. I would recommend this book for wide use in the Church of the Brethren. The Healthy Mind, Healthy Body Handbook is now being distributed by Brethren Press and will be available during Annual Conference at the Brethren Press bookstore at a cost of $14.95. At present, copies may be ordered from Customer Service (800-441-3712). For more information contact Marilyn Nelson, Director of Interpretation, at 800-746-1505. |
