ClearViewNet “Family Friendly Internet provider
wins national design award

October 16, 1999 Elgin, Ill.

An American Graphics award for excellence in communication and graphic design was presented to Chicago-area eMountain Communications and PiperStudiosInc on Sept. 16 for the design of eMountain’s ClearViewNet Internet service Web site.

eMountain provides national “family friendly” filtered Internet access through ClearViewNet, and Internet searches through the companion ClearViewSearch. At a time when pornographic sites are using deceit to corral unsuspecting Web surfers (Chicago Tribune, Sept. 23, 1999), ClearViewNet removes the possibility that children will unwittingly be exposed to pornography, alcohol, cheating, violence and about 35 additional categories of inappropriate content.

Launched earlier this year, ClearViewNet has local access phone numbers in more than 3,000 cities nationwide. Subscription fees, which include ClearViewSearch, are $19.95 per month for unlimited access or 10 hours for $9.95.

Now in its 23rd year, the American Graphics Awards presented by Graphic Design USA honor “the most outstanding entries for graphic design communications.”

Nearly 10,000 entries were received in 27 categories; less than 700 were given awards by the panel of 10 judges who represent publishing, design, and advertising agencies nationwide.

“We are very proud of the ClearViewNet Web site and its graphical communication of a welcome place to begin a different sort of Internet experience,” said Michael Addison, ClearViewNet project director. “This award symbolizes what great things can happen when separate organizations work in concert with each other to achieve a common goal.”

In addition to the ClearViewNet award, PiperStudiosInc also won an award for seven case studies offered on its home page, including a detailed description of its work with ClearViewNet.

“The ClearViewNet award is important to us because it confirms that effectively designed Web sites can be the centerpiece in establishing brand, which is critical in the very competitive Internet marketplace,” said Mike Piper, founder and owner of PiperStudiosInc.

The award-winning ClearViewNet site is located at www.clearviewnet.net.
