Investment Program

Foundation investments have grown to $117 million.

  • Growth has brought opportunity. Our program is large enough to employ some of the best managers in the country.
  • Growth increases our responsibility. While always working to achieve competitive returns, our objectives continue to be preserving assets and minimizing risks.
  • Growth tests our faith. As investors serving the church, we must accomplish our objectives within the ethical and social values of our faith. We reject investments in companies whose products primarily relate to firearms, abortion, alcohol, tobacco, pornography or gambling.

Investment Strategy

The Foundation assets are administered under a multiple manager model. Eight nationally-ranked investment managers, all experts in their investment area, implement the strategy. Managers are selected by their area of expertise and distinct investment style so that they will complement each other during market cycles.

The asset allocation model is designed to gain more consistent and improved returns on client investments during all market cycles

Investment Oversight

The staff oversight committee holds quarterly meetings with the investment managers to review fund portfolios and to discuss economic trends and related topics. The specific asset allocations in the different funds vary some as the economic outlook changes.

Comprehensive guidelines set forth the direction and framework of the program, which is actively monitored by staff members working closely with the Board Investment Committee:

  • Janice L. Bratton, Investment Officer, Hershey Trust Company, Hershey, Pa.

  • Jack Grim, East Berlin, Pa.
  • Harry S. Rhodes, Attorney, Rhodes, Butler, and Dellinger, PC, Roanoke, Va.
  • Deborah Romary, Chief Executive Officer, Romary Financial Services Inc., Fort Wayne, Ind.

Investment Decisions

Investment managers establish their respective investment strategies and evaluate individual issues for purchase or sale. These investment professionals have the responsibility to make final decisions regarding the securities held with the funds.
